Leaving Logres

(Update -- I think I'll import the few posts I made on the below-mentioned blog, over to  here.  That may make the feed a bit confusing, but I doubt if anyone's reading at the moment. )

I spent some time in late 2025 trying to make a blog using a different interface.    That blog had a nice title:  LOGRES.   But I couldn't keep it up.   I'll work on this one for a while, since I like the format.

A dozen or so years ago, it didn't seem difficult to write on the internet.    I do not know exactly what changed, and if it was mostly just me, or if it was part of a larger movement.   I've written about this before, most recently here, I think.

It was probably both, I suppose.   My kids grew up.   The internet became more .... captioned?    More like a stream, or really a rushing torrent.

There is still very good long-form writing out there.   In fact, the quality has probably gone up in the past decade, with Substack, for instance, where I recognize a lot of names and also find new ones, as well.

Ok, that's enough of the obligatory catch-up.   I tried to go on without it, but I found I couldn't.   Especially not in January!  It always seems to be the month to look backwards and forwards like the Roman god whose name it bears.

Here, I plan to write about my reading, mostly.  Thus the title.  But who knows?   I might just write about the weather here in eastern Oklahoma.    It changes roughly every half day, if not even more frequently.   Sometimes you can drive a mile or so and be in a different weather event.
