Free Reading

We have been in transit for the last week, or else preparing for or recovering from transit, and so I have defaulted to novel-reading.    I read a book called Androne, a science fiction time travel dystopian mech type novel --  I liked it.   Then I started reading a Catherine Ryan Hyde novel, and then I ended up reading 17 of them.   I won't list them all.   I also read a memoir called Running Free:  Breaking Out of Locked-In Syndrome by Jane Allat.   And I read a bit of a book called Philosophy of Mind by Edward Feser, an introductory survey which is aimed at an undergrad or equivalent level reader.   But mostly novels, because it's more difficult to focus on theology or philosophy when there is a lot happening.

The Catherine Ryan Hyde books were fun to read right at this time, because she is a geographical type writer -- many of her books are about journeys, and a lot of the journeys were taking place in areas we just passed through.   Many of her books are also about troubled relationships and family backgrounds, and about flourishing in difficult circumstances.  She has a fairly spare writing style but brings out fairly complex ideas with few words.
